He had two options according to the law, accept the interim position or resigned to his post, in which case the next Head of the Assembly would have been named Interim President anyway. Nobody remembers it was the Assembly's constitutional powers that can declare an interim president before invoking free elections. Man nobody knows jack about this and everybody comments like they're experts. Esteban Gómez Villavicencio the assembly can oly do that if the president and vice president are both dead, or quit the job or abandon the country. That was not the case. The assembly is not allowed to ignore the existance of a president to call for elections. Leonardo Soto Maduro’s term ended and he tried to extend it with ilegal elections. Also he took the oath in a self appointed supreme court creating a power vacuum.
